The Scribbler’s Article on Activities

A good education is a broad one and at Lochinver House, our boys discover huge enjoyment from a wide range of activities on offer beyond the hours of the normal school day.

One such activity is The Scribbler, a termly publication written, edited and published entirely by our Year 5 and 6 boys.  The recently released spring term edition includes a wonderful article by Zikora and Henry, Year 6, who put a good deal of thought into an article about our after school activity programme.  Our grateful thanks go to the boys for their positive insight into such an important provision:

Activities at  Lochinver House School

Activities are a massive part of life at Lochinver.  There are roughly fifty different clubs here, both internal and external.  This is an amazing and impressive amount.

On Mondays, there are clubs such as  Chess, on Tuesdays there are clubs like Touch Typing, on Wednesday from lunch to the end of the day, one of the available clubs is Scribbler and after school clubs are like Robotics.  On a Thursday you could choose German Club and on a Friday you could choose Keyboards and Composing.

We have interviewed multiple people about different clubs that they do.

First, we have Jaiveer on Drama on a Tuesday and German Club on a Thursday to find out a bit more.  On German club he said that ‘German Club Is really enjoyable and really fun with the games that Mr Ridout makes us play.’  His comments on why he joined Drama Club were, ‘I did it last term and I really enjoyed it on how creative you can be, and in groups you see new people.’  He said he would recommend Drama to other pupils as ‘You can learn new things like a tableau and how to express your feelings and emotions.’  Jaiveer’s favourite thing about Drama Club is ’I can perform live on stage in front of other people and it helps calm any nerves.’

We also interviewed Filipp about Make It Club on a Monday.  He told us ‘I think that it gives me a chance to be fun and creative and it just lets me be myself.  I would recommend Make It to most people because it’s fun and it inspires creativity.  Yeah, it’s just enjoyable.’

Additionally we interviewed Ishaan Gandhi on Touch Typing.  ‘Touch typing is very educational and it will help you in later life, it is really enjoyable, and I like the tech and software that we use.

Rudy gave us an interview as well, telling us ‘I wanted to sign up for Debating to learn how to do good debates.

‘When asked if he would recommend it to others, he said ‘I would tell them to join debating because it is fun and we do some different activities.’

Our final interview was with Raphael, who said ‘I joined Robotics because I think making robots is a fun idea.  My favourite thing is the togetherness to know what actually works.  It’s quite amazing.  I’d only recommend this activity who like building and coding because that is the main part of this activity.’
