Preparation for Future Schools

The process of choosing the right senior school begins in Year 5 with a Future Schools Evening, during which visiting schools are able to explain their entry arrangements. Following this evening, parents are invited to meet the Headmaster to review their child’s progress and start the process of identifying possible senior school options.

Children may progress to their senior school of choice at 11+ or at 13+. We prepare for both.

An effective focus upon English, Maths, Reasoning and interview skills enables the pupils to perform well in Year 6 assessments for either 11+ entry or as part of early assessment for successful transfer at 13+.

Pupils remaining until 13+ take their place in one of three small classes in each year group, which continue to enrich and broaden horizons alongside academia.

Social and emotional well-being is nurtured, giving the pupils the opportunity to develop a stronger sense of who they are. In Year 8, the pupils have additional opportunities for leadership as Head Boys, House and Vice House Captains, Sports Captains and Music Leaders.

They emerge as confident, effective learners who make a big contribution at their next school.

Lochinver House prides itself in its excellent record of success in sending pupils to their preferred senior school at both stages of entry, with a good proportion achieving academic, sports, music and all-round scholarships each year.
